Software solutions are regularly updated to add new functionality and protect users from security risks, so new software versions must be deployed frequently.
In the five(9)s Console, software is organized into Software Profiles. A Software Profile groups one or more software packages for a specific project, customer, or location.
The Package Replacement feature lets you replace existing software packages with new ones.
Administration of Package Replacements in Distribution Packages
In the Replacements multi-select, you can select multiple packages that will be replaced by the package you are currently editing. This interface also allows you to remove previously configured replacements if needed.
Visualized Replacement Hierarchy in the Edit Package Details Dialog
The replacement chain appears in a diagram below the Replacements multi-select. The diagram starts from the left with the oldest software package in the hierarchy and ends on the right with the latest package. In this example, the current package is displayed in the middle of the diagram (purple).

Automatic update of Software Profiles
The user is in control of applying replacements.

Software Package Info Dialog
The movable Software Package Information dialog appears in multiple locations within the console and displays details about the current package. It shows package replacements (highlighted in red).

In addition to the automatic updating of Software Profiles described above, profiles can also be updated quickly and easily on the SW Profiles page.
A UI widget on the SW Profiles page helps console users identify profiles that contain software packages to be replaced.

Update Profiles

Simply select the package with replacements from the dropdown, select the profiles you want to update and click update.
