Configure Software Packages for Distribution

To be able to distribute software using the five(9)s Console you need to configure the available software packages. This is an easy process, where you can add a lot of information to your packages to ease the usage later.
To manage packages, you need a right in the console role based administration (RBA) concept:
1. To be able to distribute software using the five(9)s Console you need to configure the available software packages. This is an easy process, where you can add a lot of information to your packages to ease the usage later.
2. Then select the panel “Unmanaged Packages”
3. Select one (or many) package(s) and click the button “Convert To Managed Packages” to make them managed.
(we will explain the following steps for managing a single package)
4. You can define a “Custom Name” In case you have a complex name scheme for your package to encode all different kind of information, it might be hard for helpdesk employees to understand that
In addition to that you can configure an URL to a page (e.g. SharePoint giving the user more information about that package (like vendor support, license information and so on
5. Select if the package type is install or uninstall
6. Select the supported Operating Systems – this is an advantage because we detect the operating system of your computers and ensure only approved packages can be installed on dedicated operating systems
7. Product Mapping
Product mapping is a very useful feature. It allows to group the same kind of packages together and ensure if one of the packages will be assigned, the other packages will fall out of the “desired state”.

E.g. The install- and uninstall package for 7Zip should be grouped together into a “7Zip” product. When you assign the uninstall package, the install package will be automatically removed from the desired state. This avoids to have 2 assignments like “install 7 Zip” and “uninstall 7 Zip” at the same time.
8. Click on “Save”. We will create Task und Queries for you, which will ensure the distribution will take place as soon as you assign the software using the five(9)s Console.

Now you can start your first software distribution.
